Welfare Rights
Enable employs its own welfare rights worker. His role is to advise service users, their immediate families, carers and appointees, as well as giving advice to staff. At a time when the benefits system is undergoing major change, this help can be crucial.
Welfare rights advice covers income or budgeting issues, as well as debt counselling and dealing with payments for social care.
The advice the welfare rights officer gives is entirely confidential. He can arrange home visits to help service users with their benefits forms and benefit-related letter writing. And he liaises on their behalf with Citizens Advice Bureaux and Law Centres.
Our registered care service gives high quality individualised care and support to over 100 people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. They live in small homes and nursing homes, each one registered with the Care Quality Commission and overseen by our Assistant Director for Registered Care. Read more»
Welfare rights training and update sessions on specific topics can also be arranged for service users and staff.
Writing articles and publishing occasional bulletins on benefits legislation and other welfare matters are also part of the Welfare Rights Worker's role. And he campaigns on behalf of Enable through affiliated organisations, such as Child Poverty Action Group, Shelter, and Campaign for a Fair Society.
