Volunteering
At Enable, we welcome and support the volunteers who work in our offices and on specific projects.
Volunteers also work from time to time with Enable Care and Home Support and Enable Housing Association. It may mean working with an individual tenant, if this has been assessed as appropriate.
The volunteer's role
The contribution of volunteers to individual schemes depends on their skills, abilities and experience. The role of volunteers working with individual tenants will vary according to the needs and wishes of the tenant.
Volunteers can provide support in the following areas
- informal support
- individual friendship
- advocacy
- help developing social contacts
- help to make use of local community resources
Practising multisports
Recruiting volunteers
Volunteers are usually recruited by word of mouth in specific situations, or by advertisement. All potential volunteers should complete a Volunteer Application Form. It asks for details of hobbies and interests and the reasons for wanting to volunteer. Volunteers will also be asked to provide character references. (This will also help us to ensure that they are covered for insurance purposes.)
All potential volunteers will have an informal interview. It will be carried out by the Executive Director or other authorised member of senior staff.
Enable Care and Home Support and Enable Housing Association reserve the right to conduct a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check on potential volunteers.
