Quality of Life Champion at Enable
Friday, 3rd December 2010
Kim Maddison, Staff nurse at Meadowview Nursing Home, has been appointed lead champion on Quality of Life Care throughout the Enable Group. In partnership with Michelle Binion of Derbyshire Macmillan Nurses Kim has been working towards the Derbyshire Enhanced Care Home Award. Kim’s commitment and leadership skills have inspired her team of Mini-Champions and together they aim to complete their actions plans to achieve the six competences in the New Year.
As Quality of Life Champion Kim reviewed the palliative and bereavement strategies surrounding the recent death of one of our service users in hospital. This review highlighted the gap in person centred care provided by staff at local hospitals for our service users and the “disenfranchised grief” of other service users living in the home. From January therefore Kim will be based at Ellen House two days a week as the link person for G.P.s Hospitals and staff. “I want G.P. Hospital Staff and Consultants to see our service users as people and not simply see their Learning Disability. And I want our service users to have a bereavement strategy that recognises their need for bereavement support.” Kim told us recently.
