About Enable Care & Home Support

What we do

Enable Care & Home Support (ECHS) provides care and support for people with learning difficulties, physical difficulties or mental ill health – either at home, or in one of our registered nursing homes or small residential homes.

Our registered care service supports and cares for over 100 people in three nursing homes and several small group homes. Each home is registered and regulated through the Care Quality Commission.

We provide a high-quality service that combines physical care with more general care for the whole person. Overseeing it is our Assistant Director for Registered Care. Read more»

Quality assurance

ECHS is registered with the Care Quality Commission» (CQC) to provide care and support in our registered care homes and nursing homes. We are also registered as a domiciliary care provider, enabling us to support and care for people in their own homes.

City and Guilds Chartered Institute of Environmental Health

At Enable, we know the importance of valuing people, and a person-centred approach is at the heart of all our services. This is reinforced by 'Valuing People Now»', which sets out the Government’s strategy for improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families.

Our services

All our care and support packages are tailor-made. They are based on a person-centred assessment, and include a care and support plan to meet individual needs and wishes. The plan is regularly monitored and reviewed as these needs and wishes change.

Funding of care and support can vary, but it usually includes provision through Health and Social Services.

Our staff

Staff training is a vital part of effective care and support. Service users have a right to expect their staff to be suitably qualified and trained, and we work hard to achieve this.

All our workforce benefits from a high standard of accredited training. Most of this is provided by our own in-house trainers. As a City & Guilds Accredited Centre, we can ensure high standards of learning and development for all staff and for our service users.

Our commitment to high-quality staff development was recognised this year in an Investors in People Silver Award – an accolade achieved by fewer than 1% of health and social care organisations. Read more»

Where we began

Back in 1990, Chesterfield’s Whittington Hall Hospital closed. A new provider of housing and support had to be found for the people with learning difficulties who had been living there. Over the next 20 years this new provider would change and grow, to become The Enable Group that we know today.

A key stage in this process was separating housing services for people with learning difficulties from care services. This gave access to a wider range of funding, helping our services to grow rapidly.

Today, Enable Care & Home Support Ltd provides care services and Enable Housing Association Ltd provides housing services for The Enable Group. Together we support around 350 people with learning difficulties, physical disabilities or mental ill health.
